As I said yesterday in my commentary of Nest of Red Winged Blackbird I would post a picture of the Male. This is obvious where this bird gets it's name and more common bird observed. The Female, as in most birds, is in more inconspicious colors. Upon my research with these birds found out that the male can and often does change the amount of red showing in his shoulder. I read that a male entering another's territory will cover his red feathers completely to avoid a conflict..but they are one of most prolific birds in North America. For past two weeks I have observed males jockey over territories as they prepare for mating.
