The background is Oceanside beach in California at dusk. After leaving that area we drove north and were stopped by brush fires and that is where I got the cloud of smoke in the foreground. I snatched the cloud out of its setting and superimposed it on the sunset and used a nighttime filter on the whole. This seemed to bring out the glow of the setting sun. So therein is the California burning theme--the sun on the beach and the smoke from the fire--the strength of the sun and brush fires.
