I clearly remember sitting in my 5th grade classroom when another teacher came running into the room exclaiming that the volcano had erupted. I remember that night watching the images on the television. Since then I have watched many documenteries on the eruption and the destruction it caused, fascinated by the sheer power of the sleeping giant. Nothing however came close to seeing this place in person. Thirty one years later and the trees still lay strewn around all the surrounding mountain sides for miles- the landscape is forever changed in an instant and yet, nature still has a way of coming back to life.
