Snaefellsjökull volcano and glacier in the western part of Iceland is about 1500 metres high (4800 ft). In Jules Verne's novel "Journey to the Center of the Earth" the protagonists find the entrance to the passage leading to the center of the earth on Snæfellsjökull.
