This image is taken from the ISS from a position about 1400 kilometres off the coast of Mauritania. Looking northwest, it shows a giant Saharan sandstorm in the lower third of the view, with clear air beyond a marked northeast-trending boundary. The width of the sand column was about 1800 kilometres, of which only 200 kilometres is seen here.
