Springtime is when all the flowers bloom and the animals emerge to begin life's cycle anew. It is a photographer's dream. Last Friday while shooting some photos it almost became this photographer's nighmare. This little lady* was basking in the sun when I stepped on her. She moved. I saw her. I moved - away. Like most boys I went through a herpetology phase, so I can recognize the triangular head of a water mocassin - one of the snakes of south Louisiana whose bite has ended the lives of many a Louisiana resident. Since my little friend was just coming out of hibernation she was unable to strike. This blind luck is why I am here to share her with you.

* No animals were harmed in the shooting of this photograph
