Close to midnight there was single flash of lightning followed by rolling thunder then ice and snow fell. Several cars attempted to climb the hill which I live atop, but they abandoned their efforts. The sole driver who paralleled the hill met with success as did the solitary pedestrian. Then there was nothing for several hours but glorious silence.
