Originally named "Milbrook", this Georgian house was the home of Col. Fielding Lewis and his wife, Betty (sister of George Washington). Fielding Lewis was a merchant/shipper in Fredericksburg and also operated a large plantation at this site. He lost his fortune building and manufacturing arms for the Revolutionary War. The house was sold in the late 1790's and then renamed "Kenmore" (which is how it is called today). It was used as a hospital after the Battle of the Wilderness in the Civil War. I have often taken visitors here to see the authentic furnishings and the one-of-a-kind plaster art on the ceilings. A good site to see interior pictures of it is: http://www.kenmore.org/kp_home.html I hope you like this 265-year old beauty...and do you see the squirrel? (I hadn't until I uploaded this pic to my computer).
