One day Casey, a 2-year-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, found a very cold, wet, tired, frightened, and hungry feral kitten under his front porch...who was then brought inside to live with him. They were wary of each other for several days, but mutual sharing of 1/2 jar of baby food turkey each morning (fed from my finger) helped them form a bond. By the time this picture was taken Casey had found himself functioning as parent and guardian to a growing kitten (Ronnie) ...playing with him, disciplining him when necessary, reassuring him, and...sharing not only his bed, but his precious blue ball! Both have come a long way in maturity, although Ronnie the kitten has generations of the wild to cope with (there is a sizable population of feral cats in the woods around my house) and may never domesticate fully. (He will, of course, be neutered before he is allowed outside again). Ronnie trusts me, but is frightened of other people. I cannot say enough about the loving personality of a Cavalier; Casey's relationship with Ronnie is beautiful to see, and perhaps a little surprising. Thanks for coming to take a look!
