This is the last of what's left of what once was a a forty five foot tree. What you see is about fifteen feet from the ground, where a tumor like growth bulges out where the top of the trunk must have died and broken off. I've never seen anything like this, where the bark is cleaned right off, birds have been feasting, as well as other animals. What struck me as funny was the outstretched remaining arm, with a decidedly vertical gesture to it's adversaries. Needless to say, I now have an appointment with a shrink.
