No one has ever seen this Image of Canada's Prime Minister, John Deifenbaker, circa 1957 into the 1960's. If anyone has seen the movie "Arrow", they know the story. If not, here's a quick recap. In the mid 1950's A.V.Roe Canada Ltd. designed and built a Fighter/Interceptor for the R.C.A.F., unlike anything then available on earth. A.V.Roe had the aircraft in production, with only a handful of completed aircraft available when the Prime Minister cancelled the contract, putting tens of thousands out of work, destroyed all finished and partially constructed aircraft, along with all plans, designs etc. The capabilities of this aircraft were such that head hunters from every aircraft and engine manufacturer from the United States were there within hours, offering positions and elaborate incentives. Many moved to cities throughout the U.S. One was my uncle Gerry, a design engineer, whose children benefited greatly as their three sons eventually graduated from Stanford University, Palo Alto, California. One was a babe in arms when they moved there. The "Free" University education for the children was just one of the incentives.
