this heron was apparently injured, though able to fly, and was hanging around on one of the frozen ponds in nickerson state park, brewster... several men were ice fishing and they were feeding the bird some fish scraps... I had to go out about 300 feet onto the ice to get this shot, all the while remembering my fractured arm from a fall last year at this time... it was nerve-wracking but I got the shot I wanted... (cape cod, massachusetts)
