Monument of the Unknown Soldier in Sofia * * * Monument which embodies fully the heroism of the Bulgarian nation and over time has become a sacred symbol not only of the Bulgarian army, but and the Bulgarian state. Located to the early medieval and my favorite basilica "St. Sophia"; and close to the cathedral "St. Alexander Nevski". The monument consists of a sarcophagus, which consists of 15 cartridges with the sacred land from all parts of Bulgaria. It also kept the remains of unknown soldiers from various historically significant places, thus the monument became a symbol of honor, patriotism and sacrifice of all Bulgarian warriors who fell in the defense of the Fatherland, no matter when and where it is happened. Behind the sarcophagus is placed the eternal flame that was lit with the sacred flame brought from Shipka. (The battles of Shipka peak (1877) during the liberation war of Bulgaria from the 500 years of Ottoman rule was involved and my great-great-grandfather. Afterward my great-great-grandfather also participated and in the Serbian-Bulgarian War of 1885. My great-grandfather died near Odrin in the Balkan War in 1912. Both my grandfathers were involved in World War II against Nazi Germany, one of my grandfather was involved in the fighting on the river Drava in Hungary and the other my grandfather was reached with the Bulgarian army to Vienna, Austria.) The eternal flame symbolizes the relationship of the present generations with the past and show reverence to the descendants of our great ancestors. The rear is a memorial plaque on which are carved the immortal poem of the great Bulgarian poet and writer Ivan Vazov: * * * "Bulgaria, for you they died, only you was worthy for them and they for you worthy, Mother, were! And your name only as quietly saying, they were dying without fear." * * * On the plate are also placed two crown that show reverence and gratitude to all Bulgarians to characters worthy fulfilled our duty to our country and died in the battlefields for her and for us, their descendants. In front at the very approach to the monument lying bronze lion and a watch over the fallen heroes as they watch over Bulgaria and as the spirit continues to watch over us. The official opening of the monument of the Unknown Soldier consists of 22 September, 1981 - Independence Day of Bulgaria and 1300 years of creation and official recognition from Byzantium... (Eastern Roman Empire), with the Peace treaty countersigned by her, of the Bulgarian State (autumn of 681). * * * The photography I have made on November 4, 2015 with the camera on my very old mobile phone Nokia.
