Here is some information on this area that I took off of a sign that was close by.
The edge of this 19th century landfill, once an industrial dump site, forms the beach where glass-like slag, or cinder, mixed with iron, can still be found.
The Jackson Iron Co. used this furnace waste product as a road base and fill material.
Please do not disturb this early industrial evidence.
