This is for Twinkel because there is a Dutch connection and Twinkel loves tall ships. This is the replica ship Duyfken arriving in Newcastle last Friday. She is a replica of the first ship that is known to have reached Australia in 1606, the Dutch ship Duyfken. The name apparently means Little Dove. She was built in Fremantle as an archaeological experiment using the same materials and techniques that the Dutch would have used 400 years ago. Right now she is circumnavigating Australia to celebrate the anniversary of the original ships arrival.
