I write this with a heavy heart – my beloved namesake Trixie is gone. Trixie selected me at the shelter in June of 2001 over another couple that wanted her. But when she and I met and locked eyes, they could see she wanted to go home with me. When we completed the adoption paperwork we found that she had been returned to the shelter twice since being adopted as a kitten. My husband and I could never understand this as she was the sweetest, most loving cat you could imagine – I guess she was just meant to be with us. Trixie was somewhere between 4-7 years old when we got her and was a pure joy. In 2006 she developed diabetes and she had to receive 2 insulin shots a day with nary a complaint – in fact she eventually came to tell us when it was time for her shot! She loved to lay in her fleece bed on our terrace in the warm weather sleeping and watching the world go by. At night you could find large sparkle balls lined up in our hallway for her to talk to and play with. There was also always a nightly visit onto the nightstand and across my pillows. She would curl up in my arm and we would chat and of course she would receive much rubbing and petting. She gave me far more than I could ever give her. I encourage anyone of you who is thinking of adopting a friend to go to a shelter to find one – so many beautiful animals are there longing to find that someone special to care for them and to whom they can give their unconditional love. Thanks to my dear Caedes friends who read this – I had to write it. Kathy
