Another area of porcelains we deal in is Japanese porcelains of the period 1891-1922. U.S. import laws required starting in 1891 that all goods be labeled with the country of origin - the Japanese word for Japan was Nippon. The procelains of this period were of excellent quality not of the inferior quality that began about 5 years after WWI when they were labeled "Made in Japan". The flower on the matte vase was all hand applied glass beads fused to the porcelain in a patented process. This type of work was never seen in other porcelain nor seen again since this period. This piece was very difficult to photograph as the glass beads reflect light in very strange ways. These pieces are considered very rare and go for higher prices than other Nippon porcelains. Please open it to a larger view to see the delicate glass work. All comments and critiques appreciated.
