In the USA this would be a cookie jar but this piece was made in Limoges France specifically for the English market. It's my understanding cookies are biscuits across the pond. The reason I know it was made for the English market is there an impressed stamp on the bottom, which was done on the wet clay, which is the English registry mark for 1882. The white portions of the jar are unglazed matte finish. The roses (both pink and yellow) are glazed and the whole jar is in the form of a rosebud with unfurling petals - the lid is also in that form. The edges of the petals are glazed in a peach color and then spatter painted with coin gold. The gold on Limoges pieces was always coin gold which is why it holds up so well to this day. This is a piece that still remains in our collection. All comments and critiques appreciated.
