This type of porcelain was made briefly in the USA when Irish immigrants brought their skills to the pottery makers primarily in New Jersey in the late 1800's. This porcelain was made to rival the well known Irish Belleek as very fine and delicate quality. The designation was discontinued around 1928 when manufacturers were sued by the Irish firm. Most of the small band of companies (about 12) fell by the wayside but the largest of the companies still exists today and is very large indeed - Lennox. This particular piece has an interesting story attached to it - it was allegedly painted by the daughter of Lincoln's law partner, Julia Herndon, in Springfield IL. It's a story I was never able to verify however. Suffice it to say whoever did the decorating work it was beautifully done befitting the quality of the porcelain. This is a large piece standing 16" tall. This is the last in my antique series and I appreciate the generous comments I've received. All comments and critiques appreciated.
