The striking red clay soil of Kauai contrasts with lush greens. This is all volcanic formation and it's difficult to see but there is a river in the upper left running down through the canyon about 5000 feet down. The fog was lifting for the day when I shot this. It's unusual in that it's like a mixture of desert and tropical rainforest all in one. My entry for the contest.
