Taken last weekend while out looking for pansies. Carnation is a very old flower dating back to the ancient Greeks and Romans. It's a member of the dianthus family which includes Pinks and Sweet William and got the name carnation from it's use in coronation crowns. Most frequently a hothouse flower now, used in the floral industry, but can be grown outdoors during the summer.
