This was quite a spectacular piece at the lapidary museum. The elephant itself is carved from grey agate the tusks are light agate with 24K gold tips. The howdah sits atop the elephant and was used as a carriage for the rider. Among the wealthy it was made of gold and heavily jeweled. This one is made of 24k gold and heavily jeweled with emeralds, rubies and sapphires. The whole piece was about 24" long and 18" high at the very top of the howdah. I'm not sure my picture does it justice as it was shot through glass, but it was quite beautiful.
