A cornerstone of the French New Wave, this 1959 first feature from Alain Resnais is one of the most influential films of all time. An extramarital affair between a Japanese architect and a French film maker in post-war Hiroshima recalls the horrors of the atomic bomb and the prospects for world peace with an innovative flashback structure and an Academy Award nominated screenplay by the author of the novel. Hiroshima Mon Amour is a moody masterwork. The French New Wave would go on to greatly influence US films of the late 60's and 70's. This was done with a picture of crystallized snow with filters from SPE and tweaked in Adobe. Another SNATM for this week.
