Foxglove, Digitalis purpurea, is a herbaceous perennial native to Europe, North Africa and Western Asia. It's hardy and easily grown in the US climate outdoors. It blooms for several weeks during the summer, although bloom-time can be prolonged by cutting off the spent flowers before seed is set. It prefers full sun to light shade, an average garden soil, and is bothered by only a few insects, most notably slugs and aphids. However, every part of the plant is listed as poisonous, so take care. The color range of Foxglove includes mauve, pink, carmine, white, and violet.
