One of the things I love most about the big island is the gradual slope from the saddle at near 7000 feet down to the ocean. This 7000 foot drop happens over about 25 miles. Here I am about 10 miles away from the ocean, and about 2500 feet above it, with distant views all around me. This is the dry side of the island so wide views of vast landscapes are usually unimpeded by trees or vegetation. Can you also tell which direction the wind tends to blow in this area? I certainly was feeling it when I took the picture...
