This is a small city 10 kilometres of my house. It is an old city and we come there as lot of. On this photograph no cars stand fortunately. And then the idea has you that you live in another century. As from 2000 for christus the area has been inhabited around the Meuse. The kelten (no germanen) established themselves on the sandbanks and bank ramparts, in the neighbourhood of fertile river clay. Also have the Romen in Megen and neighbouring villages have lived. The name ' Megen ' has been probably inferred va the Romanesque word "Magus", what means field, place or city. It however also of the word Magos is able come, what means ' fordable place '. Megen were the ' capital ' of the county Megen and as Meginus were for the first time called in 721. around 800 existed Megen from 44 houses, of which two castles and a convent. There approximately 390 people lived. City rights were obtained in 1357.
