i've been wandering around this place for awhile, and i've been wondering...why is it that there're no/few images of stuff like poverty or deprivation, people u see on the streets etc? there's something u can get off the streets which strikes a chord right at the heart of humanity but so far it's been pretty spare here. any reasons y everything here is so beautiful and creative but not directly linked to the flaws/uglier sides of mankind? or am i just missing the point when i see the images here?
JK. But this is intended as a wallpaper site, and people generally prefer "pretty" to "depressing" as a background. But there have been a few images that would fit into the category you describe.
Maybe we'll have a 'people' gallery if... we have sufficient images to create it!
While waiting, these images are placed in the ' Photo>General' gallery. I uploaded some photos of Himbas people and peruvian children. Have you some photos to upload? :-)
unfortunately, i have no camera to call my own...i have 2 olympus cameras but they aren't very gd n i'm waiting to get a new one...but yes, one day i'd like a gallery here of my own. =)
i just think it'll be interesting putting people as a photo-subject on this website as wallpaper...people are beautiful and real people can be very beautiful, even if u don't know them.
well, if that includes documentary subjects perhaps it's worth trying? it'd be interesting to get creative trying to blend documentary subjects of photography together with artistic tinges to get a complete result. my only regret is not having the camera and software to start experimenting on my own little ideas. =(
a portrait section/ppl in general would be perfect too. =)
In response to Joyce's query about the lack of photos of poverty & despair:
I have many photos taken in West Africa that chronicle the hopelessness, despair, and brutality of life there. Horrific medical conditions, children sold or stolen then deliberately crippled who sit on skateboards at the go-slows and the airport and beg for coins, vigilante justice - the street beatings of thiefs and then their "ringed" bodies - that is corpses of those who were beaten nearly senseless, then had a tire placed around them, were doused in kerosene, and then lit on fire - while the cheering mob watches. Many others. These sorts of things happen daily throughout Africa. If you want a rat knawed burned corpse photo, I can post one.
I just thought that a documentary type would be too depressing for a desktop wallpaper.
Would like to see a people gallery. Pierre's photos of the Himba and the Quecha people are fantastic.
Any suggestions for a good scanner. I have some 35 mm photos of people taken in Peru and Nigeria that I would like to post but know nothing about scanning an image.
Judi:
1) I would like to create a 'Photography->People' gallery, but the rule is to have enough of pictures before create it. If you can, please, upload some of your pictures in the 'Photography->General' gallery. Maybe my pictures + yours + differents pics already present will be enough to have this new gallery
2) Don't forget the Code of Conduct by choosing your photos. We've a lot of young people on this site. But we must not hide the reality...
3) To scan 35 mm films, I've a Minolta Dimage Scan Dual III. Not bad at all...
