Hi everyone,
I'm a new member here at caedes. I love this site, so I decided to share some of my pictures. However, when I press the upload button, all I get is a new blanc page and nothing is uploaded successfully. Could somebody tell me what could be wrong so that I can fix it? ---Thanx!

what web browser are you using??

do you mean ... you have filled out the info on the "upload images" page .. and then when you hit submit the page goes blank and nothing happens

or .. the "Upload Images" page is blank

please specify your Browser .. and .. Firewall, if any

I' m using Internet Explorer and i don' t have a firewall activated (i know that' s a silly thing to do). Keifer, the upload images page opens just fine and i fill in all the info needed, but then when I'm ready and i press the upload button i get a new page which is totally blanc...

do you have 'cookies' blocked in any way? .. (mmmm cookies)

Why can't I see any images on the site?
The website protects itself against people who "hotlink" the images from other websites. The way it tells if you are coming from a website other than caedes.net is by checking the HTTP_REFERER HTTP header when your browser requests a page. If this header indicates that the images is being linked from a website other than caedes.net then the website will reject the request. If you see wierd images or no images at all from the site then that means that you probably have a firewall program running on your computer that is modifying the HTTP_REFERER header when your computer requests a webpage. In order for the website to work correctly you will need to turn off this feature or change the firewall setting to only delete the HTTP_REFERER header instead of modifying it. Changing this setting will have a negligible impact on your computer's security. Firewalls which can cause this problem include Norton Personal Firewall. You can test your browser to see if it is sending the correct header by going to this page


*caedes is the only one who can answer the problem .. but I think it might be cookie related

No, I did the test and the HTTP_REFERER I'm sending is the right one... And in any case, I'm not seeing any weird images or no images... Otherwise the site is functionning just right the only one thing I cannot do is UPLOAD! As for the cookies.. I don't have a firewall so I can' t imagine of anything that would stop them from coming in (after all, why should I do that, they' re yummy! lol!).
Any other suggestions?

how do you feel about switching browsers? .. I use Firefox .. and .. ::KLZ (Keith) recommends Opera

hmmm... I don't know about that... I'm not really that much into computers and I've never used another browser before... I guess that would be even more confusing for me and maybe that would still not fix the problem. But still, shouldn' t I get a message like "Upload failure" or something like that? Why a blank page? : (

on the off chance that you have a corrupted page in your cache .. try this ..

in the IE "tools" menu .. choose "internet options" ... in the middle of the window that opens on the "general" tab .. you will see "delete cookies" and "delete files"

click "DELETE FILES" ... this will delete the pages you have in your browser's cache

then try again

Oh, and I don' t know if it helps, but I don't have a problem with uploading images in general. There's another site where you share pics of you and your friends and I can upload files there. It's just with this site that I have a problem... : (

no .. that looks legitimate .. how quickly is this 'blankness' happening? .. and what is your connection type .. (dial-up, cable, DSL)

just in case it is timing out

my connection is DSL at 768 Kbits/sec. However, it takes a couple of minutes to get the blank page... It seems a bit much for my type of connection...

and .. just to be sure .. the dimensions of the image fall into a "wallpaper" size .. ie, 800x600 .. 1024x768 .. 1152x864 .. 1280x1024 .. 1600x1200 ...

the website does not accept any other size at this time

oooooh. OK. THAT I haven't check. How do I check that?

you can drag the image from Windows Explorer to Internet Explorer .. then right click and select "properties" .. and it'll be in the middle of that window

You mean what program am I using to view pictures? Nothing in particular, just the one that windows have... How do I do that drag thing? Warning: you are talking to a computer illiterate person...

By the way, I just realised that you are the creator of the Stonehenge picture... I saw that the first time I entered caedes and downloaded it immediately! It' s awesome!

to drag an image .. locate the image in Windows Explorer .. click on the image with the left mouse button +hold the button down and drag the image over to Internet explorer and release the mouse button .... the image will then display in IE .. right click on it and choose properties and the dimensions will be in the center of that window

and .. irfanview is a FREE image viewer that does a lot of stuff .. resize, sharpen, crop, rotate .. you name it, it does it .. except for the things it doesn't do, of course

Irfanview displays the dimensions in the bottom left corner

By the way, I highly recommend using a different browser than Internet Explorer...Its holeier than Swiss Cheese ;øP

Seriously, though, you sound pretty capable, and it isn't difficult to use Firefox. If you have any questions about it, I would be happy to answer them :^).

Ok, the computer illiterate person is back again... Thank you all for trying to help... I don't know if I'm worth it as my pictures aren't as great as the ones I see here but anyways!
So, I think that the problem must be with the dimensions of the picture. When I drag & dropped it on IE , I got 466X350 pixels. I also downloaded Irfanview as you told me Keifer, but I don't have a single idea what all the indications regarding my picture mean. With Irfanview, I didn't see 466x350 anywhere as dimensions... So what now?

the bottom edge of many programs is often refered to as the "status bar" .. on the bottom left corner of the irfanview window you will find dimensions ...

also .. pressing "I" will bring up an "Info" window (or click the (I) icon on the button bar)

for now .. in order to post your image .. do THIS

1) .. load your image into irfanview using the OPEN function

2) .. go to the IMAGE menu .. CANVAS SIZE (this will allow you to add black to the edges of your image)

3) .. subtract the 466 width from 800 = 334 .. divide 334 x 2 = 167

4) .. place 167 into the LEFT and RIGHT boxes of the CANVAS SIZE dialog

5) .. subtract the 350 height from 600 = 250 .. divide 250 x 2 = 125

6) .. place 125 into the TOP and BOTTOM boxes of the CANVAS SIZE dialog

7) .. use the SAVE AS from the file menu .. to save with a different name (to keep your original untouched)


you will now have your photo centered in an 800x600 image .. ready for posting


but, to be honest, you should try and post a larger image to find a larger audience

ok, did all those, and now I didn't even get the blank page. does that mean we're making progress? lol! I waited like 6 or 7 minutes for the upload but nothing happened so I stopped it. it didn't seem normal for a dsl connection...

Sometimes it takes a while, but I don't understand why with dsl it would take that long...are you still using IE?

I've never had any uploading problems with Firefox, and I would highly suggest you try it out. Firefox has features that Internet Explorer doesn't, and it is much more secure.

you SHOULD get a "success" message .. stating that the image was successfully uploaded and will appear in the "new images" gallery as soon as it's approved

That' s what I'm telling you, I stopped the upload because it took tooooooo long. It seemed as if the page was stuck or something... timw4mail, don't worry, I read the whole post regarding the IE... : )

I just want to state that you sound pretty capable. Most people wouldn't know what speed of dsl they had, or that clearing the cache was a possible solution. I don't think you would have any difficulty with Firefox.

Actually, it was KEIFER who told me to clear the cache...

try this .. using Irfanview,

1) .. Load the pic, go to the IMAGE MENU .. RESIZE\RESAMPLE ..
2) .. Click on the 1600x1200 option on the right side and your image will be a perfect 1600x1200 ..

this works because your image is already a perfect 4:3 ratio and so is 1600x1200 ... then try again to upload .... (REMEMBER to "save as" with a different name .. so that you don't lose your original image size)


also .. it is possible that Internet Explorer is set to automatically SHRINK images to fit your screen .. that's why it gave you the wrong dimensions .. if you are interested in turning this "feature" off .. do this

1) .. In Internet Explorer .. go to the TOOLS Menu .. INTERNET OPTIONS
2) .. choose the ADVANCED TAB ... scroll down to the "Mutimedia" section
3) .. the first two check boxes should be unchecked to turn this OFF

[x] .. Enable automatic image resizing
[x] .. Enable Image Toolbar

should you decide you miss it .. just re-check them .. close your browser and re-open

you will, of course, have to scroll around big images to see them .. maybe leaving the "image toolbar" ON will give you the option to shrink

ok, I feel like I'm really starting to make you all people get tired... But I tried all these things, and still, after waiting for 5 minutes (once again too much for a DSL connection), i got the wonderfull blank page! I don't know what on earth could be wrong, I can upload images in e-mails or other pages, why not here? Keiffer can YOU upload my picture here? Could sth be wrong with the file maybe? Sorry for being so annoying... : (

Nonsense. I still would suggest trying Firefox, as it can import all your settings and bookmarks from IE. Internet security is more important on a high-speed connection like DSL because it's always connected, and hackers have a better chance at doing something to your computer. Sorry to sound repeditive, but I don't see why people insist using IE when Firefox is more secure, and you can make it do what you want it to do in a much wider exent than IE due to extentions and themes.

KEIFER, many thanks for posting my image but I don't think we can keep doing this i.e. me mailing you my pics, you uploading them and then having sb moving them around... I don't know what could be wrong, I even tried to upload a small icon as my personal icon but that wouldn't work either... Always the blank page! and it was less than 5 KB, that I've checked...

OK, now mayyyyyyyyybe I have to admit that timw4mail had a point there. So, here I am again posting this comment from firefox, and after having SUCCESSFULLY UPLOADED my first picture!!! I don't know if the problem has totally been solved as it still took me 5 minutes to upload it, but finally there it was! So thank you all for your help, don't worry, I'm pretty sure I'll bother you again soon about sth... Thanx again for all the help.
Keifer, can you transfer the pic to my gallery or does sb else need to do it?
