For Nikon users who've upgraded to Windows Vista and discovered that their RAW format files are no longer readable in applications such as Photoshop, help is at hand. The camera maker has published a new codec patch, that you can download from its web site. This patch lets Vista recognize RAW files shot on a Nikon camera that haven't been edited in third-party software. Previously, the images became unreadable in third-party software such as Photoshop. Go here to download the Nikon RAW Codec.
Glad to see Nikon are on the ball. Haven't seen any critique on windows vista yet though! Is there any major differences to XP? i'm certainly in no rush to upgrade.
QUOTE ... 30 checks each second to ensure that there are no attacks on the security of the premium content
the "premium content", in this case, is any movies you might have on your harddrive ... they want to make sure that you aren't trying to HACK the copy-protection and ... steal them ....
and they did that for the movie industry, because they asked ... what did YOU ask them for? ... nothing? ... well, that's what they are doing for you
for instance - if you - for some reason - bought an MS Zune instead of an iPod - Vista will track down any music you share with your mates and delete it - think different indeed.
as far as other apps go - im getting conflicting reports - some people with vista/photoshop say it runs like a dog - others say it flys - who can say.
and if you chose to go both the Nikon & Vista route - what can I say - well apart from
FOOL ME ONCE, SHAME ON YOU! FOOL ME TWICE, SHAME ON ME.
Well, not sounding great so far. With every new PC having vista, i'm sure time will definitely tell. I read one review this morning which can be basically summed up by this sentance
"Ironically, playing around with Vista for more than a month has done what years of experience and exhortations from Mac-loving friends could not: it has converted me into a Mac fan."
Be careful with the DRM when using the New Vista OS.
Some are saying that you can't read videos on internet or MP3 files with it. There is a confusion between Digital RIGHTS Management and Digital RESTRICTIONS Management ;-)
I'll conserve my XP for a while...
