antonline.com?

Ok, i'm serious on this post this time around...I got pshytracked (spelling) from my original question on my, obviously deleted, thread before i erased the comments i made.

Anyways, what i was going to ask was:

Is the Lumix DMC-L1 really the price they say on antonline: $1077.78!?...i'm assuming that's USD. I'm just a little, um, confused b/c on adorama it's like 1500ish and on ritz its 1999.

Also, would it be wise to purchase from antonline via amazon, from antonline directly, adorama/bhphoto, or in person?

...PS: i think its a good camera (i'm starting over from scratch...my brother is taking all me/my-dad's stuff - minus the tripod) so he will basically pay for the camera...anyways, any final thoughts on the camera that will make me change my mind b4 i actually make a purchase?

And on another topic/question:

While shooting JPG, can you snap a photo *wait 1/5th of a sec* and snap another? It only talks about the buffer while shutting RAW + JPG.

Oh, and the shutter...it sounds like a robot. ;-)

B&H lists it for $1649. interestingly, antonline lists the panasonic FZ50 for $511,where as B&H lists it for $479. so, the DMC-L1 price listed is either a)a typo, or b) a come-on.

or c) nobody buys the thing b/c it's so bad so they have to make it 1100 or d) a scam! :O

I think it's a fairly good deal IMHO. A leica lens (that has chromatic aberration, made of plastic, and not-so-smooth dials) plus a panasonic body which is like EXACTLY(!) the same as the Leica Digilux 3 priced at 1k more....but common, how many camera kits come with a 14-50mm (35mm equiv: 28-100mm) f2.8-3.5 lens?

Idoubt it's c) and if it were a scam, their other prices would be rediculously low too... and they aren't. Ididn't look tosee if they have phone or online customer support, but if they do, try asking about the price and see what they say.

I just have to ask...why don't you simply take your cam back from your brother and make him buy his own?

I don't have a straight answer to that question. My brother is happy with the D50, and if we as a family will buy a new camera, it's gonna be new...i'm the one who likes new things. *shrugs*....but (skip to the last paragraph)

I've decided the the Lumix DMC-L1 is not for me after i thought about 2-6 years down the road when i will want another camera...probably not a 4/3rds camera. I'm afraid it will be a failure like EPS cameras.

...the brand for this hour is Nikon - we can share bodies and lenses so neither of us would truly 'own' the cameras...it's merely a choice of, which one do you want this week? :)

Well, we ended up getting a Nikon 18-200mm VR lens (i wanted a tokina 12-24mm or Nikon 16mm prime but my dad said....nono, 18-200). He was looking for functionability...i was looking for quality. I hope he made a good choice.

Im guessing you meant APS cameras as opposed to the encapsulated postscript variety :-) 4/3rds is already a well established and supported technology so im doubting it is just going to vanish overnight. as for Leica lenses - whoever told you they were a bit ropey? most reviewers of the lumix agree the high price is worth it for the lens alone and the word 'remarkable' gets used a lot....

A smart bomb is only as clever as the idiot that tells it what to do

Well, yeah. :) The leica lens I/you/we were talking about is a great lens - it just isn't as good as a m-lens. It also has more CA than I expected. Other than that, it looks cool, i really like it.

...but...
