So nice stuff. I don't think i want to know what they will be worth when they are released :S. Maybe the 200mm one will be somewhat affordable......
Do you mean the 105mm vr kristof? I have read that the stablization is kind of strange on a macro lens. I didn't bother to fully understand it because i was slightly bitter that they released the vr version less than a year after i bought it, but from what i did catch it sounded like when taking macro pictures the vr didn't help very much, because of how close to the subject you are and all of that. I got the unofficial impression that the vr on that lens was more for when it was used for other things like portraits. Anyone else heard the same things, or can explain it better than i can?
I think VR and even auto focus can case problems at either extreme - macro or super telephoto. I used to have a Canon L series 100-400mm that worked ok as it was but if you used it with an extender - the VR had to be turned off to avoid distorting the image.
I'm guessing that based on L Series prices the 800 beastie will be at least $8,500. Nasty.
I have some information from a dutch site, and they say that for the 800 model, it will be around €7000 so it goes to $10,000 I think, but the prices will differ from europe to the US.
Yes Milo
, like the 105 vr , i wouldn't use it for macro work ( i always use a tripod and manual focus ) but it would be nice for flying or shy critter like Dragonfly or butterfly . I use a 100-400 for that now with extension tubes but I'm not wild about the results so a 200mm macro ( with stabilization would be ideal .
Canon used to sell a 200mm F/1.8, it was anything but cheap and I doubt the new 200mm will be cheap either. I do expect it to be very desirable though and it will be perfect for theatre work methinks.
And I'm still waiting for a stabilized macro lens like the Nikon 200vr
