S5 Review.
FZ18 Review.

You've probably already been there, but if not ... there they are. Pretty much your looking for good high ISO performance (compare the high ISO examples), wide aperture lens (small f/numbers in the specifications), and image stabilization/shake reduction of some sort to prevent hand shake (...or whatever the technical term is for it).

My mom-in-law has the S3 and it is great, even if its a little more than she needed
I know you won't be upset with the canon.

It's something found in high end canons ... or how my camera (D200) back focuses!!

...in other words, i have no idea. =P

I highly recommend the S5 IS, it has optical stabilization, also it just plain rocks. Canon is the better known brand for a reason.

Hi Andreii,
I have a Canon PowerShot S5 IS and am very pleased with it. The image stabilization feature is a great help. One complaint I have is in it's inability to render extremely shallow DOF. It isn't consistent in achieving this well to me, even though it does have a super macro mode. The background almost always comes out a bit too much it seems. But I think this may simply be a issue with fixed lens cameras in general and perhaps not a Canon specific issue. Anyhoo...I am by no means a camera expert, but I am very satisfied with my S5. :)
