i think i will refrain from posting until this thing with Jack is solved, it really makes me sad to have him quit because someone thinks two lions taking down a zebra (which is no worse than the Discovery Channel or Animal Planet) is too violent. i thought the point of this site was to admire talent, not just puppies and flowers and now one of our best and growing talents is quitting because someone wanted beauty rather than truth?
All this political correctness is just really funny.
Sad stuff, but a GREAT capture...not particularly well focused, but catchin something THAT fast action, as far away as he must have been, with who knows what size telaphoto....HELL of a shot!!
Why would that picture get taken down, number one ? And I really didn't get a sense of it "being slammed" either. Yes, several people made the observation that that's something that happens in nature or they felt sorry for the zebra, but other than the one comment from the one member, as far as I could see everyone seemed to like the shot.
It will be a shame if Jack allows this to push him off the site, the vast majority of the comments were just observations about the poster's feelings & not critiques or criticisms aimed at Jack at all.
These kind of shots are definitely needed & as anyone can see... definitely appreciated too !!
I just had a look at the pic.. I can't see what all the fuss is about its a good action shot, it's not offensive there is no blood and guts (which we see everyday in movies and media)it shows survival in its natural form. Yes its sad the Zebra was dinner but unfortunately the lions can't go into a supermarket to by cuts of meat which is no different to "humans" eating that poor cow, pig, chicken, lamb etc.
I wouldn't take it down there is nothing wrong with the content of the photo in question. I also read all the comments and don't see any negative comments except for one, which is just a tiny drop of negativity in the ocean of positivity, thats just their opinion.
I think maybe some need to realise that photography isn't all about landscapes, sunsets, flowers etc..
Personally I didn't see any "flak" anywhere. Unless someone edited a comment they made earlier, I can't see anything about any of the comments that should cause the photographer any concern?
