Wasting my time?

I have no illusions about my pitiful talents with fractals but - a 5? Is it really that bad? Any feedback is welcome and in the meantime I shall hold back my other efforts lol :)

Wellllll ... I think I am pretty safe in saying, give the CI some time to adjust. As there is hardly any room for downward movement.

Lil' ... lil' bit of levity, Lyn. Lil' bit.

Try ... this:

*This formula creates a Kaleidoscope of 5 Mandeloids.

Set the Zero-Init flag.

• (z*z)+(log(c^5)/5)

Also set the Zero-Init flag for this one.

• (z*z)+(log(c^2)/sin(c))-c

This is a third order Newton formula. Make sure color steps are set to at least 8,8,8.

Also make sure the Zero-init flag is NOT set.

• z-((z*z*z-1)/(3*z*z))

*From a Flikr group's page.

And then this tutorial seems apt and relevant in my mind to what I am viewing with respect to your visual offering. Particularly, where zooming in on a part of the flame is concerned:

Tiera-Zon Basic Walkthrough

/\ One pager only, chock full of the good good bits (underlined in red *wink* *wink*) and guaranteed to make a difference, I trust.

Fractals. Different kettle of fish. I suggest that you don't pay that much attention to the score(s) received. Compare and contrast your work to those in the permanent galleries.

5? As I write here?

Who knows what biases your image met up with in the booth.

Objectively, and in my humble opinion?

Simple, good colour combination for me ... not too garish ... and a tad dark, which may be 'it's' biggest shortcoming. As there is not much detail and visual interest. Again, my humble opinion only.

First foray for you?

I think you did well. Move forward now and keep playing around.

I, personally have Apophysis fractals currently sitting in my galleries with scores of 31, 34 and 38.

Happens. I don't sweat the 'small stuff'. :o)

"First foray for you?"

No Les :) I have 9 other abstract/abstract fractals posted - using Tierazon,Apophysis & Chaoscope. Scores ranging from 27 to 58.

You lost me at 5 Madeloids for Apop - I never could get my head around it!
First my camera goes on strike and the my Tierazons terrify people - I think I should take up knitting :)

Looking through the abstract new images I can see it is hardly a masterpiece.
Do I get a cookie for the lowest score on record ?

Thanks for the Tierazon link btw

I'm asking myself the same question about my work, constantly.
It may be that you are just suffering the same fate that regular digital artists suffer from on this site. My highest score is 78 - for a photo! The nearest I've got for digital artwork is 62.
It's still incredible that you have received so many comments from the 'usual' crowd, despite the low scores.
It all just goes to show that it's not what you do on Caedes, but it's who your friends are.

Oh well, it increased to 27 :)
Interesting to note that 9 of the 21 comments were not from people on my friends list.

Now, where are my knitting needles . . . . .

Is that what you used to create "Untitled #2"?

On a more serious note ... do take a look at zooming in on a section of a flame, that is the essence of Tiera-Zon. As I understand it.

LOL Les, I did - I even know how to do that - select area, right click and choose zoom into rectangle -see, I'm not just a pretty face :)
I could of course be really bad and upload more of the dozens I have waiting in the wings - 2 years worth.
I do have an abstracty manipulationy thingy in the perms you know - now THAT deserves a cookie - or two

Pray tell me what is wrong with Untitled #2? - it is currently sitting on 19 - better than 5!. At least it can not slump as one of my photos did today by more than 30 points.
Of course I used knitting needles - what else - doesn't everyone ?

perhaps that is where I am going wrong . . . . . .

Still serious here ...

http://www.tamrof.org/fractals/t_hints.htm

And I quote;

"Most of the really interesting images can be found in the boundaries (or edges) between one color and another. So zoom in on one of those boundaries 3 or 4 times."

Another one-pager in the above link ... specifically geared to 'quick tips'.

"Untitled #2"?

In reading your accompanying narrative, I do see where you were headed creatively. Not that far off the mark, in my mind.

However, with that said ... and in my humble opinion ... think the application and employment of treatment(s)/filters you accessed ... 'muddies' things up some.

Indeed, an abstract. And I am not being facetious in stating that.

Different kettle of fish, were our beloved number is concerned.

"Untitled #1" had better delineation and is my own personal preference between the two.

Trying to think of the PSP equivalent of 'accent edges' or 'find edges' that can be employed with that filter in Photoshop (Filter > Stylize > Find Edges). Maybe look into that creative possibility?

There is an Edge Effects in PSP - includes Dilate, Enhance, Enhance more, Erode, Find all, and a few more.
I have Photoshop too but never use it.

It's all too hard. I am going to rest on my laurels - I wish I coiuld remember how I did these ones :)

I believe I did some damage to the program with the knitting needles and that is why things have deteriorated:( Either that it it got clogged up with Oreo crumbs.

Yes, it is that bad. Sorry but the fractals you post seem very easy for anyone to pump out of a software prgram. They would be great if it was 1981. There is no apparent artistic skill or thus value given by most people for stuff they think a 5 year old could make. Spotting out examples of fractals is easy. Spitting out something of interest or making into something of interest is not so easy.

You don't look 5. Maybe you are actually 3 and its a compliment though- lol? I am sorry that I don't think your fractals are very good. You asked about this one and I gave you an honest straight answer. Absolutely do not try to please everyone though, especially me. Let me ask you if you think what I said was acurate though. Do you agree with what I said? If not, why? Stand up and defend your work or agree and develop further..or partially agree...It would appear that although you get lots of superficial positive comments the words of the commentors are not in line with scoring. If you look at scoring (which I think is iffy at best) it would appear that people have said one thing but felt another. I think that is horribly counter-productive and gutless. Although, if it scored high, I don't think that would mean my comments are not true.

How about offering a constructive critique instead of acting like a 3 year old yourself...say what you didn't like about it or what she could have done differently.

I honestly think that most people voting in the booths just do it quick and easy and vote good if they like it and vote bad if they don't.

I don't pay attention anymore to the votes I get on my artwork, because I don't think it's really the true vote of being artistic.

Example, for those who don't like Abstract Art always seem to vote it low, where someone who likes it will vote it high.

All art is, is a matter of likes and dislikes and this entire voting system is silly and to me really means nothing.

If I were you, I wouldn't pay any attention to it and just continue posting your art.

Keep up the good work and don't let the voting system on this site get you down. I just don't think people really take the time to vote artistically.
