Anyone know how to...

I am trying to get my new multi function centre to process scans through a wireless network (Airport express) on my Mac. I can print and fax but the app. that came with the printer can't be configured to use the network (as far as I can tell). I have tried Image Capture but it just says "no image capture device connected". Maybe theres a decent freeware app out there somewhere that can be set up to use networks or something like that? I would appreciate any help.

are you saying that you can print and fax, but you cant scan? because its common in those all one printers that printing and faxing are capable through print sharing in your network, or direct connection of the printer to the router/gateway. but network scanning would not be available with these units.
if i'm understanding the question right..

That sounds about right. So you're saying that scanning through the network isn't possible?

yeah, my parents have a lexmark x4200 all in one print/fax/scan machine that can be networked. I hooked it to their wireless network hoping to allow everyone to print/fax/ and scan from their pc. opened the manual and it states: "You can not use your All-In-One to scan across a network". I'm not sure why, but I believe this could be because scanning requires direct communication between the machine and the pc through a usb port or some other broad connection?? I've gotten around it by creating a shared folder on the main PC where all scans are stored.

Thanks for your help! The mistake I made was plugging the USB into the Airport Express device, I should have just plugged it into the Mac in the first place... I still can't scan from the second Mac, but since you have to come into the room where the first one is anyway (to place the item on the scanner) that isn't really an issue. Thanks again!
