My Site!!!...not quite finished, Beta here

Alright, I need to find a server, throw me some suggestions. The cheaper the better, I have it hosted on a free host with banners at the moment just so everyone can preview the site. Please dont comment on the banners when you critique the site, I already know :p. Its just a preview till I find a good host. Heres what I posted before:

"Finally finished my online photo gallery. Make sure to go there and check out the new images gallery where you can vote/comment on some of my newer images (I cant help it I have to know what people think). Also sign the guestbook/feedback section and tell me what you think of the site!

For the techies: The site was created using dreamweaver and some manual writing in php. The MySQL and Apache servers are hosted on my personal computer until I find a host worth paying for. I only get about 45k/s upload bandwidth but I've kept the site fairly simplistic and streamline, and the images at small file sizes to compensate. Lemmie know if you know of a good/cheap server to pay for. The entire site including the database and images is under 10MB, and I dont expect a great deal of traffic, so keep that in mind."

Of course, my server isnt working, instead of fixing it I am hosting it on the free server. Umm, also need to add that the host needs to have a PHP and MySQL server installed, phpmysqladmin would be nice but not necessary atall.

Feel free to vote and comment, the databases will be moved along with the site so all of your comments on images and in the feedback and such will be saved. Thanks for taking a look and make sure to tell me what you think!! (thats the point of a preview) Dont be too harsh, I'm a sensitive soul you know. Now go visit!! http://ajmcqueen.glwb.info. Make sure to scroll the top frame down past the Ad so u only see the ad in the main frame :-p

Thanks alot! I hope it does well... Any knowledgable persons who would like to suggest a temporary method for minimizing damage caused by the banners, feel free. (aside from adding the top frame into each page, not worth it)

I don't think the quality of the images on the site right now do your photos justice. I'm not sure what format you have saved them in?

at the moment, I have them saved at a lower quality, until I can get ahold of a server that will permit an larger flow of traffic. dont worry, I have the higher quality images in reserve, they are still at that size though

I would suggest that you stay away from frames. They give a lot of problems for search engines when they are indexing the site. Also it's a good idea to cater for people using a resolution of 800x600. Currently your site forces people to scroll horizontally which is a big "no no" in web design.

Most universities/ISPs give away some free webspace. I can't remember a time when there wasn't some sort of storage available to me of varying size/quality.

There's also the possibility that caedes has room for you on WHA, which always seemed like a very good price for what you get.

hmm, the site should work at 800x600, the only resolution I didnt cater to was 640x480. I'll have to play with my tables, thanks, what browser are you using btw?

Yeah I get webspace with my ISP, but it does not serve PHP or MySQL :/. Thanks for taking a look.

Good call on the php/sql, I forgot they don't usually give you that. I needed cgi support once and searched a long time for a free/no ads place, but they went to pay-only a couple years ago. I guess that google is your friend in this case. :)

I always wanted a site completely of my own . . . I could do so much . . . but you have to pay . . . and money is something I have nothing of. No joke. I have like a penny in my wallet.

I checked it in IE 6.0 and Firefox and in both of them I get the problem with horizontal scrolling.

yah, borders are actually set to 880
I'll work on it today, the image and text on the front page dont need nearly that much space so it shouldnt be a problem, thanks for taking a look. I used the same tables in all of the pages on the site so I've got a lil bit of work to do, but shouldnt be a problem. I think I've found a few good hosts, so I should have the final working version of the site up soon here. Thanks again.

A good rule of thumb is to use a size of 760 for your table. That way it'll cater for the scrollbars etc as well.

thanks for the suggestions, I'm not sure if the gallery would fit in a 760 table now that I am looking at it. I would either have to place only 2 images per row, or decrease the size of the thumbnails. About the frames, i considered writing a template for banner being on each page, but I really dont think vertical scrolling works well in cases like my site where the top banner is navigation.
