i have a canon eos rebel 2000 (film, but SLR i think). the pictures come out okay but every time i develope a roll of film i have to pay extra to have them put it on a CD so i can transfer it to my computer. its only about $5 more but it will add up. this, i think is one of the downsides of having a film camera vs. digital. is there any other way i can put my pictures on my computer (besides scanning)?
Sorry. There is no other way to import images into your computer unless you want to copy them with a digital camera and then upload those images. Of course if you had a digital camrea to copy with.. then you wouldn't have to copy. Have you priced your photofinishers charges for a develop and CD onl/? Do you really need the photographs up front?

I was faced with the same problem. Unfortunately there is no other way, someone has to scan your photos. To do the job properly they need to be scanned with a film scanner. Good digital camera’s cost less than good film scanners. That wasn’t what you wanted to hear was it?
thanks for your help! i actually do have a digital camera but its not very good, just a family camera. my digital wouldnt really get the same results. wish i could get a digital slr but those are soooo expensive.
Oh yes they cost heaps up front but they are dirt cheap to run. Once you have one you can afford to experiment to your hearts content.
Have you thought of getting a used one? Canon recently released their new model the 20D. I expect people will be selling 12 month old 300Ds and 10Ds to provide funds for the new one.
I agree with trisbert. If you are now having your prints made through a photofinisher and then have to pay to have them put on a CD, that is a lot of money that could be used for the purchase of a digital. There are so many digial cameras out there, at so many prices that I am certain that you can find one that will fit your budget, Maybe it doen' t have all of the Bells and whistles that you would like to have but we all had to learn to crawl before we could walk.

If you aren't looking to digitize every print and don't need ultra-resolution/quality (slightly higher than caedes.net level on down) an inexpensive (sub-$100) flatbed scanner is probably cheapest. If you're looking to email or post here a shot or two from each roll, that could be fairly easy. If you want every exposure on the computer and take a lot of film, this could get very tedious very quickly, though.
