question. i've noticed that a lot of people here will thank a person for making a comment on their artwork on the same page as the work itself. i guess the other alternative would be to go to that persons 'page' and leave a thank you, or even send them a personal message.

i tend to think if you leave a 'thanks' at the same place that the person left it, they wouldn't see it unless they revisited that page.

i'd really like to get opinions on this because i don't want to be in bad form when thanking someone or making comments. thanks!

Agree, but when I make a comment, I often 'subscribe to the discussion', then I can see the follow (... if my comment is more important than simple 'nice picture' )

That is true but I usually give one general thank you if several members made similar "nice pic" comments. If the comment is directly related to the image (i.e. how to make it better) then I response in the same page so that other people can followup the chain of comments. Otherwise, I would write a thank you note in their personal page, especially that member had made repeated comments on your images.
