I'm thinking of taking an extended backpacking trip to Yosemite this Spring/Summer. I know that I've seen a bunch of photos on the site and I was wondering what places I should put on the itenerary.
prismmagic: Where exactly would the 'backside' be? Do you mean north of the valley where the main visitor's center is? I'm trying to make some sense of this map that I printed out, but it lacks topo lines...
This might help you match up with the map you have: Terraserver Topo For a place as popular as Yosemite, it's highly likely your local bookstore or "outdoor store" might have some decent maps (Borders and B&N are usually not so great in this department, but it's possible).
Edit: I hadn't realized TOPO! was so cheap. This program is really great for creating custom maps of where you want to go, you just need to protect the inkjet printout against water, unlike a good USGS quad.
Cool, free, and you can have it right now: CaSIL. Or a direct link to a TIFF of the "Yosemite Valley" 1:100000 metric quad (warning 26MB file). 1:24000 tiffs also available on that CaSIL site.
I, uhh, have a bit of a thing for topos... By the way, never been there, never been west of Buffalo, so as for your original question, I have no idea.
Caedes: Dont know. my brother said that he just wanted to drive over there this summer, to take pics, and i think im gonna go with him if i can get off work. Man, just how big is the park?
I think I read that it is more than 3,000 km^2. If you go to mapquest and just look at a map of the US you can see it pretty well.
Thanks xentrik, I'll have a look at those links you collected for me.
