I've recently redirected all the gallery thumbnails and user icons to be downloaded from a separate server (images.caedes.net). It has reduced the bandwidth use on this server by almost a factor of three (see graph) and reduced the load on the server by a level or two. So any webmasters out there with an image gallery who need to save bandwidth might consider changing the way thumbnails are downloaded or their filesize at least.

That explains why all the user icons take forever to appear.
'waiting for images.caedes.net' is now a familiar message on my status bar. In all the time it took me to type this message, your icon above has not appeared.
