The most active members on Caedes are ranked by their participation using the numbers generated by their “Comments,” their “Votes,” and their “Uploads.” And, this is fine in evaluating what the member has done, for his/her rank as active.
But I was wondering if the “Most Active Members” should also be reflective of other, “over and above” activities too. Maybe, have a combination of the personal achievements along with contributions made for the betterment of the site too. For example, “contributions to the discussion boards; nominations made to the AC; his/her work accepted to the Main Gallery; participation in the contests as a contributor, as a voter, as a winner; and selection as Artist of the Month.
These categories can highlight an activity made by our artists over a much longer time period. Thus, a compiled list of artists, who, through their actions, illustrate a higher set of standards and practices, for the continuation and advancement of the site.
I am sure, with more thought and attention given to this idea, more topics may be used as measurement tools and could be added to the list. And ones submitted above may be dropped. But, my thought here is to consider a concept which will give credit to those working in the best interest of the site and to encourage others to join in by showing them the connection of these categories with the elevation and growth of the site
Unfortunately, the current system, and that proposed, take no notice of the quality of the comments or forum posts. Lots of 'that's a nice picture' type comments that do little, still count towards the accolade of the most active member. Someone who makes 3 detailed constructive criticisms would, I suppose, get less points than someone who made lots of bland criticisms. The same will apply to voting, even if votes are cast for bad images, nominations of unsuitable images to the AC etc. Automating such a system to show real quality of participation would, I think, be very difficult, and without it the meaning would be worth less than the current one.
