Hi Jen. I have noticed this also. It is just my thought but having the Artist of the Month, having the Voting Booth, having the C-Index, and having the AC all taken away have left things rather sterile. Sure, there were some mighty arguments here at Caedes. But, I think, those things brought spice to the site and gave us excitement and something to look forward to. Like and hate are both more enjoyable than sterile!
Maybe we could bring one or two of those good things back. I'd also like to see some of the old members come back. Maybe if we changed some things, they would.
"what has happened to our once energetic and active site?" what a good question, I think it deserves many good answers. I dont think there is any one event or issue that has affected artists unanimously. What the heck, we are artists and we want to display our work. The energy that goes into creating art or photo is the same, but the excitement of gathering new and one of a kind wallpaper has diminished. I think that the thrill of publishing unique art, is not as unique as it used to be. Good art is now common. Great art is only stolen, and does not put food on the table. I also think that the ability to create art (I will call it art because I am too lazy to type photo and art each time) has become much simpler due to more user friendly software. There are so many people posting that its getting kinda old to sort thru them, to find something unique and fresh. I think that art created for cell phones would add limited excitement, but eventually that would get old also. The voting booth and nominations for AOTM would eventually have gone away because of LOI (loss of interest). I have noticed that even the discussion board has diminished in activity. I think art will always be here, but interaction between the artist and the viewer has lost its thrill.
What killed the site was lack of rules and members dictating site policy. "simpler due to more user friendly software" that concept has been brought to you by "members dictating site policy". The whole point of this place was "interaction between the artist and the viewer" In real time I have to add.Without that what is the point? Yet another forgotten reason people come here to begin with. The place went from a well maintained site to an oh well if im not busy sort of place.
How amazing that an 8 week membership can allow such in-depth analysis of the history of caedes LOL2012. How can anyone interact as a viewer with you as an artist when your gallery is devoid of art? I thought there were a couple of images but they are not there any more.
My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust

I think that members are not nominating for the AOTM. I still like this site and will keep posting photos. I am bad at not commenting on photos and will try to correct that.
