You have heard wrong! Adobe is absolutely not providing free copies of CS2!
What is true is that Adobe is terminating the activation servers for CS2 and that for existing licensed users of CS2 who need to reinstall their software, copies of CS2 that don’t require activation but do require valid serial numbers are available. (Special serial numbers are provided on the page for each product download.) See.."
I am using PS Elements 5 right now downloaded from that page today and using the provided serial number.
This seems to be the latest news - 11th January - they can be obtained for free but were not meant to be - BUT they still have the download site up and there is no requirement to provide an Adobe ID CLICK
Perhaps I should send my Elements download back? :) Seriously, what should I do ?
I dont really need it, but after using up all that precious bandwidth downloading I intend to at least have a play with it. I believed this was a genuine free offer.
The link you gave was dated 7th Jan, I dont know how long before that the downloads were available, but here it is the 13th and all Adobe are doing is saying there is no entitlement unless you already have a licence - and the downloads and serial numbers are still sitting there freely available. Very strange. You CAN actually download them for free the way they have it set up.

With the most recent version of Adobe Photoshop going for over $700 (over $1K for extended) retail...It is highly unlikely Adobe parts with ANYTHING for free! :P
...and that STILL doesn't include some of the "must have" 3rd-party plug-ins...NOR the state-of-the-art computer you're going to need in order for the whole thing to work right... :P :P
Well. Elements 5 is working perfectly - not saying I like it mind you, I do not 'like' my other version of PS either (that is just because I am not clever enough to understand it, and am used to PSP) I still do not understand why Adobe have left the programs as is to be freely downloaded if it is not their intention to give them away. Taking into consideration they are old versions and will not work with Windows 7 or 8, perhaps they are anticipating that those still using XP will give them a go and then when they upgrade to a later OS will purchase a new version. I downloaded Elements 5 without needing to use my Adobe ID (yes I do have one :) ) but I did register the Elements product afterwards and it shows up in my list as being registered to me on 13.01.13.
So - I guess I am in possession of an illegal copy - a registered illegal copy. If I do not return, the Adobe police have caught up with me.:)
