wearing glasses and surprised :D
still wearing glasses (although, maybe he has big eyeballs :)) ..and sticking its tongue out :)
wearing glases and hm....swallowed a small pyramid? :D
Yeah, I already know the accepted literal translations as far as the individual part go (galsses, tongue, etc). I am more interested in the associated feelings conveyed. For instance, I also see the first as suprised, the second in a kind of silly/joking mode, and the third as a cartoon bird. I'll let everyone know what this is for as soon as I get a few more good responses.
I agree with those interpretations pretty much, although because the circles in the "8" are slightly different sizes it kind of looks like he/she has googly eyes rather than glasses, esp. in the first one. Also I thought the third one kind of looked like he/she might be poking out a very pointy tounge? I think the first definitely conveys its "Message" the clearest.
A figure of speech in which two unlike things are compared. EG; My love is like a red red rose. or His feet wer as big as boats.
Oh, pardon me I was going for SIMILE not smiley. (see smirk at right)> 8^i You've got no noses in your examples, it works on your 1st=suprise but the second one doesn't look right to me. Don't use them much so they always stump me for a second anyway
Strange but true, people have done this research for graduate degrees. But to get funding, you have to call them "emoticons" (this guy was actually a rather interesting professor). To answer your research, I'd say: 1) surprise 2) joking/sarcasm 3) I have no idea.
agree with 1) suprise, 2) tongue poking out, but 3) looked to me like a twisted lip, the sort of expression you use when you can't say what you're really thinking, and you have to stall for time till you think up a creative comment.
#1= googly eyed person with mouth open (or possibly very cheesy grin) #2=same googly eyed person with pencil balanced on top lip #3=same person talking
