I was looking to kill some time and decided to go back to the beginning of the news items on the front page and read them all. It gave me a real insight into the way caedes has developed and why it is run the way it is. I suggest you have a look if you haven't already (unless of course you were here from the beginning...).
Wow, it must have been something with the position of the Earth, moon and stars as I did the same thing. I wish all the pictures were there that the links point to. The appontment of the mods was interesting. It all progressed smoothly and now look at it...wow. A condensed timeline might be a nice addition to the site for a little history on the development of Caedes.net.
I thought of a timeline also... great minds, as they say... ;-)
'Care to elaborate on "the way caedes has developed and why it is run the way it is"?'
Things such as why the mods were introduced and their primary role (at least at that time); the introduction of the user gallery and the permenant galleries; the decision not to make caedes just a photography site, as was being considered at one point; the introduction of the voting system; the decision that some old images would have to be deleted and the discusion on how this should be decided etc.
Some very interesting quotes: "I can't wait to launch the newset version of caedes.net, version 3.0! It will add a whole lot of funtionality, such as an image rating system..." Do I see dark clouds gathering on the horizon?
"08/30/02 8:26 AM I picked three great nature shots from the User Gallery to go into the permanent Nature gallery..." "10/29/02 11:18 AM I've moved about 35 User Gallery images into the permanent collection. Quick! Go see if any of your's were promoted. =D" That's a two month gap between moving images...
"You've probably noticed that the user gallery has gotten WAY too big to keep in one gallery. So I've been thinking of various ways to re-organize the galleries (galleries and sub-galleries, etc)." Hard to imagine nowadays...
Anyway, that's the sort of thing I'm talking about. Just gives you a good idea of how the site has developed in the last 3 years, and how quickly it has grown, and perhaps that people shouldn't take what's here for granted. It just might not have turned out this way!
Yea, I read some of that when I was hunting for Guesstheartist clues. I agree, it's fascinating stuff. :) How long have this place not traveled? In many respects I'm in awe. Kudos on all of you that built it and especially, naturally to The Master himself!
Never give up. Obstacles don't have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don't turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it. ~~ Michael Jordan
I think this website is the one that's lasted the most for me. Besides maybe yahoo. The timeline definitly needs a more permanent place on the homepage.
