One of the STOCK photo websites I peruse is the MorgueFile ... I just noticed that they are producing a Magazine ..
I don't know much about it other than it contains photos from the site and self-promotional "ads" (for want of a better word) for some of its members .. not sure if it's PAPER or PLASTIC, as they say in the retail food industry ..
MorgueFile is a free resource .. and, that's not to say that some of its members don't make a living from photography .. but most are hobbyists having fun ... Similar to, well, Caedes, for example .. so .. Let's do one too .. doesn't HAVE to be monthly .. not all magazines start out monthly. .. We could do FAKE ads about combatting waxy yellow buildup .. and ... why travel destinations like YOUR HOMETOWN are to be avoided
And, NO .. I'm not gonna be den mother .. you only need to read what I write to know that I have NO organizational skills
(*keith .. time to come in, it's getting dark out*)
I gotta go .. mom's calling
*** I've edited this 3 or 4 times and whole blocks of text are vanishing into the twighlight zone .. (*dee do dee do dee do*)
heh Keith you crack me up... i think this is a good idea would deffineatly need someone to step up and spearhead this (aswell not me)... it could be something Quaterly (4 a year) or Semi annualy (2 a year). lots of different ideas that we could use to run with this and im sure there is a editor or 2 on here.
lol, .........its def a good idea methinks. i would gladly support & contribute if possible but would not be capable up spearheading it as i have no idea how to. it could feature tutorials on the various aspects of photography, PS, GIMP, Apophosisjhgfh(sorry , bit of a tongue twister 4 me) featured artists & reflect a hardcopy version of what the site stands for. have competitions. As for the target audience.....theres a lot of magazines out there with a similar breakdown so to discern the content from that would be the real trickery.
Realistically, I really don't think it would work. Seriously, I don't think there would be enough stuff to write about, after two copies, it would just be pictures.
I imagine the biggest problem with this idea would be paying for the publication and distribution. Everything else up to that point could probably be done fairly easily, but there would need to be someone in charge who would see it through and make sure everyone stayed motivated.
That would be cool! Along with pictures, there could be articles about different computer programs, photography, art techniques, crits of pictures that people volunteer for, etc.
Great Idea.. could have different sections eg. Abstract, Photography, Manip etc.. Could even profile an artist from each section (similar to Sam's artist of the week), a bit of a bio and a couple of pics and a link.. One Tutorial from each section in each edition of mag.., Q & A page... and NO i'm not available to do it either, but i'll give a hand to whoever does take it on.. =)
Well, you don't really need to have a printed edition. It good very easily (as these things go) be done in electronic format. At least that should save alot on publishing costs.
I believe PDF compression is more efficient than full-page JPG's, and affords the added benefit of being able to copy and paste text out of the document, which you can't do with an image.
Fascinating conversation about a Ceades publication. I hope I may help to activate some doable plan. I have had experience with publications, with the Military and with social organizations. One of the Facts in communications claims that the ideal format is when an individual can hold information in their hands, identify with the contents and be able to resume their browsing. There is a feeling of pride to see your own work, or that of an aquintance, have their work imortalised in publication format. There is no doubt in my mind that there is plenty of information to maintain a bimonthly magazine. Let me warn you, this is VERY labor intensive. The costs can usually be absored by sponorship or the sale of Adds. Postage and handling costs should be absorbed by subscription rate. If you project a budget of under $75,000 a year, you can form a non-for-profit organization and apply for a 501-3C tax exempt status. Editors cost money, they are ruthless and a royal pain in the Azzz. Yet they produce an enjoyable product. Committies are ruthless and a royal pain in the azzz, and they also cost money. Committies seldom produce anything enjoyable. Finding support to start the project is easy, finding a fool willing to do it is the hard part. I have been in the Military, I have been married, I have raised kids. So I am willing to make comment, but I dont need any more Hell in my life. Good Luck!
