is it just me & grimbug who are obsessed with the raging competition...nay! the clash of the titans that is the.........'author list' ! ! ! i am currently quite hooked on scrutinizing the first two pages to see the....flux of who sits where.

i hear u Capt. Hero, its a case of quality not quantity. Sam does have fewer pics with better c-indexes. & hats off to him & his mind tricks :p

just that i feel an urge to use the 4 slots that i can use to upload pics, but i havent been as productive as usual recently.i've boiled down to my own pace now....the initial excitement of caedes.net is worn off, possibly a good thing coz i was spending way too much time here : ) but i still enjoy it like no other website : )

(MP that comment was just my attempt at humor... saying that I didn't care about ratings but then proving the opposite... it was only a (poor)joke. Of course that doesn't change the fact that I AM the best artist here on caedes...)

my production levels fluctuate madly... it all depends on seeing something or being inspired by something... when i fail to post anything new for several days.. its generally down to the fact that ive had a disapointing edit... i'll play in PS fail to produce anything satisfying with an image.. and just get disheartened somewhat.. and turn off PS and load up my latest game instead.. or turn to my bookcase for solace, waiting for my muse to return. The best way for this to happen is by stimulating my mind with the visual...one of the more enjoyable ways of finding my muse is watching a film... both me and avi have noticed our brains have now developed a new caedes habit... 'I see dead people'.. lol.. actually 'we see desktops', we watch a film and at almost the same instant we turn to each other and we will say.. " ooh that'd make a nice desktop.." its like some part of our brains are watching the films frame by frame waiting for interesting compostions and colours... this always seems to help. the other inspiration that affects me the most would have to be the new gallery here.... i always browse through it and find myself thinking wow.. i wonder how they did that.. or ooh if only they had done this... or i wonder what i could do with that... and away i go.. back to PS and the edits flow once more....

hmm i seem to have tangented majorly.....erm one of the other things that plays a role in the author list is time.....specifically the amount of time an image has been on the site. I think a big factor is over time the sheer volume of views and downloads and votes builds up..and possibly helps build up those 99 images... i see it happening myself.. my older images steadily creep up in the index.. and images that are well recieved initially tend to reach up and up ... especially once they escape from the new gallery and into the permanent ones.

i can think of 2 reasons off the top of my head... joost could have gone through his gallery and made a few manual deletions for some reason making him jump backwards over a certain number of people... or those same certain number of people could all have manged to jump joost when the site didi its daily c-index update?.. i know which one is more likely... but maybe im missing a 3rd or 4th or many more other reasons.... ???

well...in Tennessee, USA there's no snow or blooms in the winter...just grey. I'll be focusing on photography in a few weeks tho. Those leaves and flowers are makin their way back.

I was bummed out when I fell from #8 to #18 in just a few weeks-- it was around the time what I consider the "second generation" (or rather, the first generation after I myself joined Caedes.net) started uploading like mad. Since then I've moved back up to #16.

It's funny because there are gaps in terms of how many works are put up-- and quantity counts more than quality on the list. It's just a kinda fun thing to look at. I probably check once a week or so.

yeah i used to upload 4 a day just bcoz i could,but then i kinda wound down as i the excitement of the new wore out, not to say anything about the site. this site is amazing & the folks in it are amazing too, but i still try to upload as much as i can when a creative spurt takes me.

I've been follwing this thread from a distance for a while... I must admit I'm now following the Authours page rather closely. :D I din't have a look on it until GRiM made some remark about it maybe two weeks ago and I found out I was on the first page. I was reather glad for this and I'm still moving on up! Gotcha Avi! :D Sorry had to say it. :p

The thing Bob remarked about is a rather interesting issue. It would be interesting to get a Best Author List, where the quality counts more than the quantity... Bu tI'm sure not much would change in the top of the list from the one we got. Pierre had to give it up to Tracy mayby... ^_^ Well, the image ranking page gives a rather good hint on who are the best submitters regarding ratings. Quality is something other still... You can make a super job and get rather low ratings for it... Tricky thing this ratings and lists. I think the solution that we got is rather handy.

There isn't really any other way to do it, I have thought about this. If you ranked authors by average c-index for example, rather than overall c-index, then a person with one image rated at 99 would be at the top. And you could manipulate your way to the front page by just deleting everything reated below 99 (if you REALLY cared about your rank that much) I think the way it is now is fair. If authors want to delete some of their lower ranking stuff they can, for example Joost and Mary did this recently I think ("spring cleaning") and it did effect their positions in the list, but not much... which just proves that they were only there because their stuff was quality in the first place. There are some authors who contribute only occasionally and do great work; yes they are lower down in the list because they have fewer images; but they still receive the ratings, comments and ultimately recognition they deserve. It's fun to compete, but I think we all know that's all it is - fun. I don't think anyone really takes it that seriously.

I haven been uploading for a while, due to a block & the amount of work I've hadplus i needed a break from the amount of time i spent on caedes.net. But the point is exactly what Joost said. nevertheless Klas, i was standing still for far too long & so good work on overtaking me.......now i have something to work towards :p

Congrats Joost. :D You rightfully took my place in the author list. Congrats to Sam too. :) I've been inactive lately and will probably continue to be so. I've got to attend more to my life and less to caedes. Sad but true. ^_^ That's life. I enjoy it immensly here. But it's not possible to keep up with the pace here. That would be a full time job and my life allready consists of at least tree full time jobs... Feels like that anyway. I was thinking about throwing in the towel by deleting my worst rated work in a "spring cleaning". Now I don't need to do that. ^_^

I must say that I'm happy to be in such good company that I am in this author list. I respect and admire all of the fine artists I share it with. My best guess is that I will continue to submit quite a bit from time to time... But I got to cut down the time I spend here. It's getting in the way for some things I really can't ignore. It will be interesting to see how much I will be able to comply to my own idea here. I'm seriously addicted and it's going to get rough going cold turkey. I guess I'll just have to delete this post if I can't get off my habits here. :D

it possibly means you havent selected which of your images you want to show.. goto the edit profile link and you'll find a section to choose your image. if thats not it then it must be some sort of error.

oh yeah i've had that, it sometimes takes a long time to load, i seem to recall right clicking on the image & selecting show image, if not try a refresh & be patient, if it doesnt load up at all ask the almight caedes : ) hope this helps

I'm sorry to say so Joost but I think you are overreacting to the recent changes here. I think I understand why but nevertheless - you are taking it out of proportions.

I may have my own opinion, you in the past were also reacting several pages by saying you were leaving and saying you would come lesser on caedes, and not receiving enough credit, so at last respect everyone's feeling, everyone may delete their own fotos, and the rest bla bla bla.I think Iam adult enough to know what I am doing. Thanks for the concern although.

I do respect everyones feelings and thoughts. The reason why I'm not staying here so much is only because of my lack of time to spend here. I got other priorities now when my kid needs more attention. My thoughs on how and why people vote is not an issue here.
