The only indoor plant I have right now is a "Lucky bamboo" plant (the kind you see in Chinese restaraunts). Just need to keep them topped up with water and make sure they get sunlight... no soil, no watering except every few months. Easy. Cacti/succulents are good too because it doesn't matter if you forget to water them, but once again you do need to keep them somewhere reasonably sunny.
I have a thumb of death when it comes to plants. I can kill even the heartiest plant in a matter of weeks. I have an aloe that is VERY hard to kill, yet it is slowly dying under my care. Same with a rosemary plant I had. So I stick with the artificail ones, even though I'd LOVE to have real ones, I just don't have a green thumb.
Hey Sam...you have to feed them Chinese food. And do you know why Mother in Law plants are called that? If you chew the leaves it temporarily paralyzes your vocal cords and you can't talk...hence you give them to your mother in law in her salad...hee hee...it's true, I'm not making this up.
Jenn... make sure you aren't watering your Aloe too much. I don't think they enjoy having wet feet. I had one in my bathroom and I never watered it, it did fine (although it did get a bit spindly trying to reach the window).
Actually I hardly water it. For a long time it was doing great. I talked to it every day (yes I am one of those nutjobs) and it thrived and bloomed. Oddly, when I got sick, it began to get sick as well. Once the weather gets nice I'll try planting it in a bigger container and hopefully I can nurse it back to life.
My stepmother had a gorgeous plant that had a red "flower" in the middle...it wasn't really a flower, it was the leaves all pulled into a nice tight unit that made it look like a flower. It was gorgeous, and apparently very easy to care for. I'm sorry I don't remember the name...but...I see them quite a bit at office buildings and banks and such (probably because they are pretty and easy to care for).
