The Communications Opportunity, Promotion, and Enhancement Act of 2006
The COPE Act is a bill currently in congress that will limit free speech on the net.
In order to understand the implications of this bill, first keep in mind that in the not-too-distant-future, all media could potentially be carried on the internet - TV, radio, music, news, telephone.
The COPE Act is a bill in Congress now -- the Communications Opportunity Promotion and Enhancement Act of 2006, or the COPE Act for short -- which marks a dismal overhaul to federal laws concerning media, internet, and telephones in the United States. The revision affects both local video and the internet, and could well harm the future of local video and the internet, along with the rest of the media in America. Read on for more details. ... HERE
We are back to the New World Order and one world government. The only way it can be pulled off is to take charge of any and all media. The Net is the largest source of free speech in the world and the NWO has to take control of it to silence free speech which lays them bare. I say they will stifle free speech on the Net and effectively stifle free speech everywhere. Then the mark of the beast as discussed in another thread here. Speak while you can! Shout from the housetops because there will be a world government....God said so.
Center for Digital Democracy We need to voice our opposition on this, or we may end up having the internet change to benefit big corporations. Can you get use to saying "For the corporation by the corporation" instead of "For the people by the people"????
save the internet
What do you mean Curt? Safer not to speak because of my "religious" association and the fact this really has Biblical support or that Big Brother is watching?
Please direct any religious content HERE. Lets try to keep these things under one banner without bogging down yet another thread in some religious debate.
"Tim Berners-Lee, chief architect of the World Wide Web, says his world-changing invention would no longer be an "open information space" if broadband providers abandoned the principle of Net neutrality."Battle for the Web
So Curt...what are you saying? There is no NWO? Is that "religious?"
Am I restricted to one forum? My views don't mean anything if it offends your senses? I don't really care for most of the other views but I don't constantly whine about it. I always believed got something to say? Say it. If you are offended there's not something wrong with me...there is something wrong with you.
Guys come on...
Maybe religios views would be better suited to a religious site, however, everyone is entitled to their opinion...
Opinions are like assholes, everyone HAS one, but not everyone LIKES them...
and just to show MY ignorance...I thought NWO was a wrestling team...great wrestling team by the way.
The topic of this thread is about the future of the internet and keeping it neutral and free. That's what has made the internet what it is today.
I would love to hear from other people about this issue.
Those of us who are residents of the United States and want to know more about the COPE Act....also known as the "Barton Bill" just need to click Keith's link and then use the link there to find and contact your Representative (all you need to know is your zip code!). Make your views known and voice your opinion there as well. I have already contacted my Representative and will let y'all know when he responds and what he says. I asked what the general feeling is on Capitol Hill about this bill and also my Representative's personal opinion about it. By the way, this is know as "H.R. 5252". You can research it further that way also.
Hi all,
I received a letter from my state Representative re: the 'COPE Act". Here is his reply:
"H.R.5252 would use a variety of means to increase the deployment of broadband networks and services throughout the United States. This bill has been referred to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce. No further action has been taken at this time."
He went on to state that this bill has not come before the House for a vote and that he is interested in his constituents point's of views. :=)
I don't know his vote Keith. I had asked for his stance on the bill, but he not did reply to that question :(.....all I can do is continue to follow it, inquire & interact. Hubby is going to D.C in about 3 weeks, so he will be meeting face to face with him on other business, but I am asking hubby to question him regarding his position on the Barton Bill. Will keep ya' posted! :=)
I hate to be nitpicky, but I can't seem to find the text of the proposed bill. If i vote on it, i need the read the text to get an unbiased opinion on the matter. Currently all I have to go on is what the site says, and you saying it's bad. Bearing that in mind, I will probably find the text 15 minutes after this post.
I had heard this talked about on the radio some weeks ago and was pretty concerned about it. I had intended to start a thread on it, but had forgotten until today when I ran across a link to one "savetheinternet.com". Does this mean that the idea has been officially thrown out? I have been thinking that this is a positive decision, but is there something I don't know about? If it were to be represented as a legal decision again, what would Caedes.net's take on it be? Would we pay? I did immediately agree with the voices on the radio, but it was pretty biased, and I am not sure much I trust my deciphering abilities.
