I live just outside the subburbs of a city with a metro population of 3.3 million. I am always hearing about some new Mall-Mart (intentional spelling) opening up in less gaudy sections of the area, or how the city asked the people whether they wanted it or not. It seems to be a pretty big issue, letting go of the spaced residential quality of the surrounding cities and allowing the shopping centers in all in order to gain a little cheap convenience. It doesn't do much for the neighborhood, but it is nice not to have to go so far for whatever you might need. The one being debated about a couple of miles from my house got turned down, but there is another one that sprung up about fifteen minutes away. That is close enough for me.

You are talking about China Mart. We already have one and now they are going to build one down the road...in a residential area. Everyone fights and China Mart wins...go figger.

For several years, the peak method of expressing upperclass snobbery was through eating organic food. It was something available only to those who could afford it, and they did what they did beause they had to prove themselves superior to Mall-Mart shoppers. Ironically, Mall-Mart not only sells them, but it is the largest distributer in the country, often with the cheapest prices. Upperclass snobber is going to have to find a new practice to undulge in.

I have seen upper classers sneaking about China Mart incognito, then sneak armfulls out to the Sades. Of course the Sades is two parking lots over...can't be seen at China Mart next to the Pintos.
